School resumption can bring in lots of mixed feelings for parents (and even high school or college students). You may be happy in anticipation of school resumption after long months of staying at home, but the bills to play, workload, and the stress involved in waking up early every morning may be a cause for concern.
For parents, it may also mean planning for early morning rises and lunch packs. So, what is the most effective way to prepare your child for school resumption?
Let’s take a look at some quick tips to help you avoid stress and hassles
How to prepare for school resumption
a. Read all the school messages and emails
Due to the busy lives that parents live, many of them hardly find time to read through school messages, and are then taken unawares when they suddenly meet a law that they aren’t comfortable with.
Most schools send messages to parents for several reasons, but the major ones are: to inform them of changes in school policies or rules, to update them on parent meetings. This is to establish a close relationship between parents and the school management.
Therefore, you may be missing out on so much if you don’t read all the emails sent. Your child may be punished, scolded, or turned home for something you could have avoided if you’d seen the messages earlier.
b. Reinforce the “early-to-bed, early-to-rise” mantra
Research has shown that children between the ages of 3 to 5 need between 10 to 13 hours of daily sleep. Children between 6 to 13 years need about 9 to 11 hours of daily sleep. So, sleep isn’t something that should be compromised or starved in your child’s life.
The night before school resumption, make sure they go to bed very early. If their normal sleep time is 8pm, they should be in bed on or before 7:30pm. Eliminate all distractions that could cause them to not have a good night’s sleep.
Getting enough sleep is vital for brain development and body formation
c. Get necessities before school resumption
What is the fun of school without supplies?
Don’t get school supplies a day before school resumption. Ensure you start setting things in order a week or two before that day. What are these supplies?
School bag, stationery, lunch bags, snacks, and most importantly, tech products.
Why are tech products important?
We live in a digital age, where all parts of our lives have been influenced by one tech innovation or the other. It’s very important that your kids get acquainted with happenings all over the world. You should ensure that he/she isn’t left out. Laptops, iPad, etc. will greatly help the child if used positively.

d. Brain alertness
After months of staying at home, the child may not be in the mood to go back to school. It’s your job to put your child in that mood by stimulating their minds through reading, puzzle games, etc.
